Rupiblica Dominicana 2009

This summer, I had the distinct opportunity of going to the Dominican Republic for a week with a group of friends from Calvary Church of Souderton. We went to help out with several things. One way that we helped, was by going to a school and helping them with construction and demolition efforts. We helped to tear down a building that needed to be gone, building walls, digging ditches for foundation, and filling them with concrete mixed by hand. It was a lot of hard work but the group really pulled together and got an astounding amount of work done for this school.

Another way we helped out was by holding an English-teaching camp every evening to give the locals a chance to learn to speak english from American English speaking people, instead of the teachers they are used to, who are natives with thick accents often times. We taught them grammar, conversational language, played games with them in English, and showed them the message of salvation from the Bible.

There are plans in the making for taking a trip like this next summer but possibly in other locations!

These were bracelets at a vendor right on the beach.

We did have one day of relaxation after the craziness of the week!

A random dog walking the beach.

Airplane views were amazing!!

The tarantulas were very fun to play with and photograph!

This was one of the vendors there. He called himself Bob Barker.

Here was the group from the English camp. Eager to learn!

Here was our group that went, after a long week of work!

Thankful children from the school.

Unfortunately, most of my shots had to be drive-by's from the moving bus.

A view from the church window where we held the camp.

Another drive-by of a local

Probably the best Coke you could ever taste!
